Painting Nopales

FREE virtual workshop

In this virtual workshop, follow the process of painting a nopal (cactus) in oil paint with artist and director of Flatline, Elizabeth Munzon. Follow along with your materials or watch the live demo.

Elizabeth Munzon

Elizabeth Munzon received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) emphasized in Figurative Painting and Drawing with a minor in Marketing from California State University, Long Beach in 2017. The same year, Munzon co-founded  _flatline, an artist run gallery and art space that also serves as Munzon's working art studio located in North Long Beach CA.

The following are materials we will be using in the workshop. They are recommended but not required. Use what you have and have fun!:

  • 8x10 or similar size canvas

  • Paint brushes  

  • Linseed oil 

  • Gamsol or turpenoid 

  • Rags 

  • Oil paint 

    • Titanium White, Burn Sienna, Burnt umber, ​Alizarin Crimson, French Ultramarine, Sap green, Yellow Ocher, Cadium Red, Cadium Green, Green Gold


It's ok if you don't have all the colors listed above, we might not use all of them, but it's good to have them just incase. I will go over mixing the colors and how to look for the cools and warms within the lights and shadows.


You can use your own reference image or you can use the one that will be emailed to you with your zoom link.
