"When there's lemons..."

Karina Vazquez

My drawings and illustrations are my perception of the world around me and my place in it. I source inspiration from all aspects of daily life, which can range anywhere from current events, the lyrics to a favorite song, or my own insecurities. The female figure is central in my work depicting my personal emotions in reaction to my environment. These figures take on the role of alter egos and convey messages of empowerment and a feminist essence. Organic matter is another constant in my work, plants are meant to remind the viewer that we exist in the natural world, not solely as a spectator but as a part of it. With subdued graphite markings and elemental forms of color and shapes; I strive to create a dreamlike state so that the viewer may for a moment be transported into a place of comfort that feels light and airy but forces one to reflect.
