Brian Oakes (they/them) is an interdisciplinary sculptor based in Brooklyn. Their spatial investigations manifest through technocraft, including open source agendas, DIY materiality, satellites, nuclear culture, piracy, and the inherent strangeness of being “online.”
They hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture with a concentration in Computation from the Rhode Island School of Design (2018) and participated in the Technology residency at Pioneer Works in 2021.

Their artwork has been shown in the U.S. and internationally, including “Bohemian Centipede” at Scooters for Peace in Shibuya municipality in Tokyo, Japan, and their most recent solo exhibition, “Nocturne No2.” was hosted by Feiertag Gallery in Kassel, Germany. They have shown in group exhibitions at Mery Gates Gallery, Blade Study, Dunkunsthalle, Someday Gallery, Bellow Grand, Space 369 (MN), Nightjar Studios (OH), FriEnds Gallery (RI). Oakes sculptures and installations have been featured online and in print in publications such as New York Times, Spike Magazine, Cultured Magazine, Wallpaper Magazine, Artforum, Interview Magazine and The Batshit Times.

This past September they opened their first Manhattan solo show ‘SEED’ at Blade Study Gallery alongside their participation in “Objects USA: 2024” at R & Company Gallery and “Incandescence” at Shirley Fiterman Fine Arts and Lehman College Arts Gallery.
